Mold & Moisture Evaluations

Sick Building Syndrome and Building Related Disease issues are often due to mold. Water intrusion, coupled with abundant organic food sources such as drywall, acoustical ceiling tiles and wood create a rich environment for mold growth. Some molds can induce allergy and flu-like symptoms or even exacerbate asthma in building occupants; some persons report malaise, weakness and lethargy after mold exposure.

Parks Environmental Consulting has the experience to investigate and identify mold presence in a building. We evaluate extent of fungal growth, hazard level and offer response options. Appropriate mold abatement techniques can then be offered, and once abatement is complete, we re-inspect the area. If desired, Parks can provide abatement oversight and air quality monitoring during abatement and at completion. The key is to eliminate and prevent water intrusion where mold exists.

When evaluating for mold, Parks Environmental considers the following:

First and foremost, if water intrusion has occurred, identify the location and affected materials. Assess how to dry, or remove, the building material be it wood, sheetrock or other material.

Presence and extent of moisture and water intrusion (water must be present for molds to grow and sporelate)

Determine the extent of mold contamination (visible and hidden).

Bulk and air sampling as necessary to determine mold presence, type and location. If visible mold is present, we typically do not test that mold but proceed directly to abatement. Testing is typically done if there is a medical need to know the mold type, mold is suspected but not seen, or possibly present in hidden areas. Sampling also helps determine extent of mold spore contamination and specific mold species. Air and surface bulk sampling can be used as part of abatement to check containment effectiveness and completeness of work .

If the situation warrants, Parks can prepare a mold abatement work plan or technical specification for mold abatement. We also provide on-site testing, oversight and consultation as needed through the remedial process.
